My Favorite Passage

My favorite passage comes from the Bible.  The Bible is one of my favorite books it has several Passages that I love.  The Bible is my important to my faith and how I try to live my life.  In the Bible is .8:28.  It states that And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.  This is my go to passage for whatever I have going on in my life.  This passage picks me up when I a feeling down. This passage inspires me to better.  Whenever I read this passage I feel like I am back on top and no longer failing at the task at hand.  Initially when I started this class and was faced with the task of designing several projects at one time it became overwhelming and stressful and I thought that I could not do.  I grabbed my Bible and turned to this passage and it gave me the faith I need to succeed.

All About Maps

The maps I chose visually communicated with color and the Map of Mexico Surface Geology also have patterns that goes with the colors.  The color represent certain things and can be found in the legend.  In the legend is where you find the meaning the colors in the map. These maps uses color and are easy to read.  In addition to the color in the first map it also uses symbols/icons to also identify what is being displayed in the map.  The symbols also makes the map easy to read.

My Reflection

As I review projects one through three, I think my strengths were in choosing a color palette and targeting a particular audience.  I think I was successful in choosing a color palette because I chose colors from my images.  I colored my text as well as other elements on the page with colors taken from my images to make the piece more cohesive.

In projects one through three, I also failed trying to execute some things.  I failed at writing a piece that focused on a particular subject because of the use of dangling participles.  I did not pay attention to how dangling participles can take the reader away from the subject.  I also failed at.

To improve my weaknesses my plan is to use an outline to organize my thoughts about a particular subject matter.  I think an outline would allow me to see what belongs in my piece and what does not belong.  I also plan to use the Bang book and reshoot some of the images I have already taken from different angles in an effort to create tension.  One thing that stuck with me in reading the Bang book is that angles create tension.  I can also improve on the placement of my new images.  This might allow my design to be more sleek and clean.

I honestly believe that your strengths can also improve.  I think that I could use more contrast and saturation when putting together a design, instead of everything being the exact same color.  I also think that with more reading and writing different genre of things I can improve in my writing.  I also think I can improve the images quality.

bad PSA

While I enjoyed this PSA, there are always ways to make things better.  A few things that I may change about this PSA is adding more to the script because the announcer appears to get cut off.  The announcer never mentions where the other kids come from and it looks like it was missing from the script.  I think it would make a stronger message to add where the other kids come from.  I think that both the kids should be coming from their neighborhoods and hook up.

Yo quiero Taco Bell (from print to commericial)

I remember this commercial as if it was yesterday although it originated on 1997.  I remember because I was studying Spanish in like the 6 or 7 grade and that was the most popular phrase because we all knew what it meant and how to pronounce it correctly.
I remember seeing this picture pop up all around.

What are you goin to do? (call-to-action)

I was flipping through this magazine and I seen quite a few ads that were call-to-action.  I guess I never really paid them any attention after I received the information I wanted/needed that I did not read on to find out more by reading on to identify what the ad wants the audience to do.  I guess a call-to-action is just that simple as visiting a website or dialing a number for more information.
This was very helpful in viewing some ads and identifying the call-to-action when planning for my project because I did not know that a call-to-action was so simple.  I also read on a few email from campus police asking students, faculty and staff to call campus police if your see or hear anything and that was just one line like most I had seen.  I started imagining for my project that I had to come up with a long to-do list for my audience to complete.

Mount Vernon

I was just still walking around the neighborhood taking pictures and collecting research for the remainder of the semester.  I can see why they call Mount Vernon the art district because abstract forms can be found anywhere in the neighbood.

This is a flyer I found at work (The Chase House) and it is an example of an  cause and effect.  It was a campaign from Baltimore City government.  I am not sure exactly how effective it was because I think it is an ongoing campaign.  I personally don't think it was too effective because the flyer is text heavy.  Many of the residents I work with are iliterate so it the couselor idea to post it but she was unavailable to read it to them.  The photo and the title is not very eye catching.  Looking at this campaign flyer it reminds me of the mistakes I don't want to make when making my own.
Recently in the neighborhood, (about a month ago), was another campaign to take back Baltimore City Streets.  (couldn't find the flyer) but it was text heavy however it also had color.  As a community many local businesses such as: Eddie's and the residents were excited and was trying to get block off the street in effort to raise awareness for all the crime that was going on in the news.  At the time of this campaign (also I think sponsored by Baltimore City government) the Travor Martin case was wrapping up and several reckless shootings.  I also think at the time a three-year old boy was shot in the car in Cherry Hill.
I think it is important for heirachy and typography for cause and effect to be effective.  That is what i am focused on when completing my project.

Choosing a feature story

In my research, for my feature story, I learned quite a few things which made it difficult for me to decide on a location for my article.  I learned that Mount Vernon as well as Bolten Hill, Charles North and Madison Park makes up the Midtown Community Benefits District.  Midtown is known as the "geographic heart" of Baltimore.  It links the city, from south the Inner Harbor, to the north the revitalized community of Charles Village from the west a reviving theater district to the  massive expansions around Johns Hopkins Medical Institution in the east.  Because Midtown is made up of four communities, I guess you can imagine why it made it difficult to decide on a location.  I was highly interested in Modell's Performing Arts Theater @ the Lyric.  I was highly interested in the theater because I have seen plenty of comedy shows and plays in that very building.  I enjoyed the shows because the seating is placed at angles where you can see at all times no matter where the placement is on stage.  I am, however, most familiar with orchestra seating because I like to pay the few extra dollars to be sure I can see everything.

Location! location! location!

It was not hard to find several articles that focuses on a specific location.  In the house-buying process location is the most important and this project caught my attention. I found one on abclocal.go.com and Chicago Tribune.com.  These articles were some of the few that were positive stories as oppose to shootings and killings that I hear most of the time in the news. I really enjoyed the article on Chicago Tribune site.  I enjoyed this article because I really like the sketch that it had and the goals the co-CEO, Walter Robb had in mind when deciding to bring the upscale grocer, Whole Foods to a low-income community like Englewood.  It was a good idea to allow the store to serve as training opportunities for  culinary students of the local community college, Kennedy-King College and hire locally.  As we all know, college is expensive and students need the money and back when I was in school most students did not mind working.  It is also important to gain experience as well so when graduation time comes the task of getting your career started will not be as daunting.  Although I am not a shopper of Whole Foods, I also think it is important to provide affordable fruits and vegetables because studies show our society is suffering from  obesity.
